Things you need to know!

COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 that has been known to  trigger a respiratory tract infection that can range from moderate-severe- to fatal when it complicates other chronic health conditions. Both upper and lower respiratory tracts can be affected.

It spreads mainly through person-to-person contact.

RSV, respiratory syncytial virus, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms.RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in children younger than 1 year of age in the United States.

The Flu, aka influenza virus, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. Some people, such as people 65 years and older, young children, and people with other health conditions are at higher risk for infection.

We've put together some links that might give you additional information on these three conditions. We've also added some information where you can seek assistance. If you have any information or questions regarding conditions that affect our communities  and would like to see us to share information on it, please send an email to info@brooklynwate.org

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is the agency whose main goal is to present accurate information about the nation's health and protect its citizens and visitors from health, safety and security threats.

Black people in NYC are twice as likely to die from COVID as their white counterparts. Unfortunately, racial disparities have affected Black & Brown communities disproportionately due to the lack of access to testing, lack of information, and chronic co-morbidity factors. Brooklyn and the Bronx have been the two hardest hit boroughs with new infections and a higher COVID-19 fatality rate. Visit the CDC and learn more.
